Ця стаття узагальнює аргументи та контраргументи в межах наукової дискусії з питання дослідження крос-культурної бізнес-етики на основі міжкультурного цілепокладання та аналізує його вплив на прийняття управлінських етичних рішень. В основі цього лежить думка, що наші емоції, дії та сприйняття знаходяться під сильним впливом несвідомого навколишнього сигналу, на відміну від свідомо оброблених імпульсів. Суб’єктам була дана установка через експозицію серії фотографій із зображенням двох культур: американської або африканської культури. В статті пропонується використання сценарного підходу, за яким суб’єктам було запропоновано оцінити чотири короткі історії, що описують етично сумнівну ситуацію за етичною шкалою. Представлені чотири теми стосувались: хабарництва, фальшивої реклами, забруднення та вимирання видів. Результати дослідження засвідчили, що групи, які отримали цілепокладання на одну з культур, виявили, що всі сценарії є більш неетичними, ніж ті, які взагалі не отримали жодної установки. Значні відмінності між двома праймінг-групами (африканською, американською) спостерігалися лише відносно теми, що стосувалась вимирання виду. Наприклад, суб’єкти, які отримали установку з африканськими зображеннями, розглядали сценарій вимирання як більш неетичний. В статті встановлено, що незважаючи на те, що культурне цілепокладання не було повністю зафіксоване, обидві групи виявили, що всі сценарії є більш неетичними, ніж контрольна група, що означає, що ефект установки (праймінга) дійсно існує. Висновки, які отримані в статті можуть призвести до кращого розуміння культурних відмінностей і, як наслідок, до зменшення культурних непорозумінь. Це також може призвести до покращення процесу прийняття етичних рішень діловими людьми, які розуміють несвідомі впливи та упередження, які вони відчувають при спілкуванні з людьми різних культур та етичних поглядів. Дослідження доводить, що мікультурні установки, які спостерігаються в реальному часі, змішуються з тисячами інших стимулів в нашому повсякденному житті та призводять до зміщення акцентів та необ’єктивного сприйняття реальних подій.
