Значну кількість часу співробітники адміністративних офісів проводять на робочих місцях спрямовуючи свої зусилля на підвищення загальної ефективності діяльності організацій. У результаті дані організації, як приватні, так і державні, у своїй діяльності мають надавати пріоритет комфорту своїх співробітників. У цій статті досліджено наскільки комфортними з точки зору адміністративних працівників є офіси у державному університеті. У якості змінних, що впливають на продуктивність роботи досліджувалися різні аспекти їх фізичного середовища, такі як меблі, шум, температура в офісі, освітлення та простір. Систематизація літературних джерел вирішення проблеми облаштування комфортного фізичного середовища в приватних організаціях засвідчила значну залежність продуктивності праці співробітників від фізичного середовища, в якому вони виконують свої обов’язки. В той же час, на сьогодні існує дефіцит досліджень, які проводилися б на прикладі державних організацій, особливо в секторі вищої освіти. Методологічним інструментарієм проведеного дослідження став метод кількісного аналізу, згідно з яким було проведено анкетування 81 адміністративного персоналу державного університету з кількома кампусами в Південній Африці. Результати показали, що значна кількість респондентів розглядають комфортне фізичне середовище як необхідний елемент для підвищення ефективності своєї роботи. В той же час, реальне фізичне середовище не завжди відповідає їх уявленням про те, як організована робота у офісах. Наприклад, 63% респондентів вважають зручні меблі критично важливими для виконання своїх обов’язків. Тим не менш, лише 55% опитаних погодилися з тим, що їхні університетські меблі є зручними, 24% не погодилися, а 21% зайняли нейтральну позицію. Розкол у сприйнятті вимагає від університету звернути увагу на слабкі місця та нерівність у забезпеченні ресурсами фізичного середовища своїх працівників. Майбутні дослідження можуть бути спрямовані на визначення того, чиї офіси є найбільш комфортними в університетському середовищі. Крім того, перспективним напрямком майбутніх досліджень має бути узгодження сприйняття працівниками комфорту фізичного середовища в офісах з результатами спостережень. Це дозволить збагатити отримані результати.
