Проблема низької ефективності функціонування кооперативів у країнах, що розвиваються, привертає увагу широкого кола фінансових аналітиків, науковців та представників уряду, оскільки є серйозною перешкодою для діяльності громад та успішного економічного розвитку країни в цілому. Основна мета дослідження – визначити, наскільки заощадження та повернення кредитних позик задовольняють інтереси членів кооперативів. Методичний інструментарій дослідження включає використання наступних методів: метод Спірмена (при визначенні наявності зв’язку між показниками); формулу Yarmane (для розрахунку розміру вибірки учасників опитування); дисперсійний аналіз, кореляційний і простий лінійний регресійний аналіз (при тестуванні поставлених в роботі гіпотез). Об’єктом дослідження обрано два кооперативи: Нігерійський корпус з безпеки та цивільного захисту та Нігерійська імміграційна служба. В статті представлено результати емпіричного аналізу, що підтверджують значний зв’язок між погашенням кредиту, заощадженнями та задоволенням інтересів членів кооперативних товариств штату Огун та – між умовами функціонування кооперативів і забезпеченням довготривалого членства (залученням нових членів) в них. На основі проведеного дослідження автор прийшов до висновку, що для покращення умов функціонування кооперативів дії федерального уряду Нігерії мають бути спрямовані на створення дієвої інфраструктури в країні: регулярне електропостачання, водопостачання, підвищення безпеки громадян та інше, – що підвищить мотивацію до ведення бізнесу за рахунок позик або інших форм співпраці з кооперативами. Автор обґрунтовує, що кооперативам рекомендовано вести продуктивний діалог з Центральним банком Нігерії та банківським комітетом в контексті налаштування ефективної роботи схеми інвестування капіталу та схеми надання гарантій кредитування, що дозволить знизити фінансові ризики для підприємств-членів кооперативів. Дослідження емпірично підтверджує та теоретично доводить, що забезпечення активної співпраці кооперативів з приватним сектором, промисловими банками, а також федеральним міністерством торгівлі та інвестицій дозволить спрямувати реалізацію цілей діяльності кооперативів на користь економічного розвитку Нігерії, а отже – зростання ВВП в розрахунку на мешканця країни.
