Актуальність дослідження проблематики управління кредитними ризиками фінансових інституцій, зокрема банківських установ, обумовлена високим рівнем невизначеності, пов’язаної з бізнесом позичальника. Метою даної статті є, по-перше, аналіз та оцінювання інструментів та методів управління кредитними ризиками, які використовуються банками, та, по-друге, – дослідження регулятивної політики банків з позицій синхронізації поточних результатів діяльності банку з відповідною політикою, процедурою та стратегією управління кредитним ризиком. Реалізація поставленої мети передбачає використання якісних та кількісних методів дослідження, на основі використання первинних та вторинних даних про 15 із 20 банківських установ. Методичне забезпечення дослідження передбачає використання методу переписних вибірок, що дозволяє отримати надійну та достовірну інформацію про предмет дослідження; методу описової статистики та таблиці частот. Проведене дослідження емпірично підтвердило та теоретично обґрунтувало, що банк має добре організовану кредитну політику, яка ефективно протидіє впливу кредитного ризику. За результатами проведеного аналізу обґрунтовано, що банк має значний досвід в практиці надання кредитів та використовує відповідні інструменти та методи оцінки кредитного ризику, включаючи механізми та інструменти виявлення, вимірювання, оцінки, моніторингу та контролю ризиків, управління кредитами. Результати дослідження також засвідчили, що для роботи банку характерні такі бар’єрні позиції, як: відсутність навчання для клієнтів, що призводить до перенаправлення позик; відсутність моделі формалізації кредитного ризику, яка враховує рівень ризику бізнесу та пріоритетних секторів банку з позицій використання кредитного механізму, що безпосередньо сприяє збільшенню обсягу неповернених кредитів. За результатами проведеного дослідження автор рекомендує розробити незалежну політику та процедуру управління кредитними ризиками та відповідно – комплекс заходів з подолання таких проблем.
