Старіння населення та його наслідки є надзвичайно суперечливим питанням у світовому контексті. Збільшення кількості старшого населення поряд зі скороченням народжуваності призводить до надмірного навантаження на економічно активну частину населення. Подібне розбалансування загрожує скороченням обсягів робочої сили, уповільненням економічного зростання, збільшенням соціальних видатків, зростанням фіскального навантаження. У зв’язку з цим, використання власного досвіду країни для вирішення проблеми швидкого старіння нації та прийняття заходів для підвищення якості життя літніх людей та їх соціальної інтеграції у суспільство є недостатнім, оскільки зміни у віковій структурі населення можуть відбуватися у країні вперше. І тому необхідно досліджувати та адаптувати досвід інших країн щодо вирішення даного соціального питання. Метою цього дослідження було проведення порівняльного аналізу стану старіння населення в Ірані та Польщі, а також оцінити ступінь впливу старіння нації на тривалість життя, народжуваність та валовий внутрішній продукт (ВВП) у цих двох країнах. Об’єктом дослідження обрано Польщу як представника європейських країн, яка стикається зі збільшенням числа людей похилого віку, та Іран як країни, де тільки починається зміна вікової структури населення. Періодом дослідження обрано 1950-2020 роки. Результати дослідження засвідчують, що відбулося збільшення кількості населення похилого віку, але частка цієї групи населення порівняно з іншими країнами світу є на нижчому рівні. Доведено наявність суттєвих відмінностей у процесі старіння населення в Польщі та Ірані. Особливістю демографічної ситуації в Ірані є зниження рівня народжуваності, що призводить до зменшення загальної кількості населення країни та збільшення частки людей похилого віку. Дані соціально-демографічні трансформації у довгостроковій перспективі можуть деструктивно впливати на формування ВВП Ірану. На відміну від Ірану, у Польщі відбувається збільшення старіння населення, що спричиняє зростання витрат на соціальне забезпечення та захист, а також падіння ВВП. Швидке зростання населення похилого віку порівняно зі зростанням загальної чисельності населення країни та збільшення частки людей похилого віку у найближчі роки наголошує на необхідності подальшого планування контролю над проблемами, пов’язаними з цією групою населення.
