Зниження темпів економічного зростання в Йорданії, збільшення рівня безробіття та скасування державної підтримки окремих верств населення призвело до погіршення добробуту середнього класу в йорданському суспільстві. Вагомість середнього класу для країни зумовлена тим, що вони виступають рушійною силою при створенні ринкової економіки, а також реалізують творчу та інтелектуальну працю. У статті розглянуто сутнісне значення середнього класу та його роль у розбудові демократичної й правової держави, а також у забезпеченні стабільних темпів економічного розвитку. Метою даної статті є проаналізувати рівень зменшення чисельності середнього класу в іорданському суспільстві протягом 2010-2017 років. Для проведення даного дослідження використано наступні індикатори: середньорічний обсяг доходів, подвійний рівень національної межі бідності та частка населення, які отримують у середньому 60 % доходу. Джерелом статистичної інформації слугували дані Світового банку та Департаменту загальної статистики Йорданії. Автором статті запропоновано розраховувати узагальнений показник для характеристики середнього класу в суспільстві – середньорічний індекс доходу домогосподарств. Проведене дослідження засвідчило, що протягом 2010-2017 рр. відбулося суттєве зменшення розміру середнього класу в Йорданії. Автор припускає, що протягом наступних років буде зберігатися така негативна динаміка, особливо беручи до уваги зниження економічної активності із-за коронавірусної пандемії. Доведено, що неефективність державної економічної та соціальної політики призвела до збільшення кількості бідного населення, а також зростання рівня безробіття в країні. За результатами проведеного дослідження запропоновано провести коригування державних програм, щоб забезпечити збереження середнього класу та дати йому можливість реалізувати свій потенціал у стимулюванні економічного зростання, розвитку людського капіталу та підтримки розбудови громадянського суспільства в Йорданії.
